8 Reasons Why You Should Invest In Yourself

You might associate the word “invest in” with finances. However, the best investment you can make in life is in yourself. There are many ways in which you can do so. Let’s talk about what investing in yourself actually means, which areas of your life are worth investing in, and most importantly, why you should bother investing in yourself in the first place.

This post is all about ways to invest in yourself, why you need to invest in yourself, what does it mean to invest in yourself, how to invest in yourself in your 20s, invest in yourself, what does it mean to invest in yourself.why you should invest in yourself

What does investing in yourself mean

Investing in a very simplified way means putting in, giving something to gain more of something. An investment is something you have and make because you hope (and know) that it will increase in value in the future and thus improve your life.

“An investment in yourself will never lead to regret.” – Germany Kent

Investing in yourself can therefore mean putting in time, money, effort, energy in self-care and personal development.

Investing in yourself means choosing yourself. It means improving a certain or all areas of your life, it’s finding your voice and finding your place in this world.

Areas in which you can invest in yourself

You can invest in all areas of your life. Your health both mental and physical, your relationships, your spiritual life, your finances, your career, your interests outside of work.

You can learn new skills, gain knowledge, gain experience. You can broaden your network and foster existing relationships.

Finances

“Many people lack discipline when it comes to saving money. What good is having a bunch of stuff if you’re struggling, in debt, or broke most of the time? So many people put up a front like they’ve got it going on, but they know the truth. They spend all of their money trying to look important, and/or keep up an image. Knowledge is everything! Educate yourself about money, investing, and saving. I encourage you to start investing in yourself instead of things! Set yourself up for a better future and start making better choices. Building wealth takes time! Have discipline. Save. Stay consistent. Be brave enough to change your spending habits. Be wise! Don’t allow money to control you. Strive to have a healthy relationship with money!” – Stephanie Lahart

Well being

“Invest time and energy in your well-being. Create an atmosphere of emotional safety for yourself.” – Amy Leigh Mercree

8 reasons why you should invest in yourself

#1 ROI

ROI stands for return of investment.

The biggest and best investment you can ever make is in yourself. When you grow as a person when you gain knowledge, gain skills, optimize your health, foster healthy relationships, improve your attitude towards money, hire a mentor, and so on, this will help you prosper in all areas of your life. It’s setting yourself up for success. It’s building a strong foundation that can’t be torn down easily.

ROI is the biggest “why” as it in a way contains all the other “whys”.

“Doing what we love, investing in ourselves pays off.” – Akiroq Brost

#2 Build or gain more confidence

Confidence goes hand in hand with competence. The better you get at something, the more you know, the more you can do successfully, the more confident you will be. It doesn’t mean you should wait for the day when you’re super competent to feel confident, absolutely not, you are enough the way you are today. (Those who are believers know that your confidence should come from God, be found in him, not the outside world.)

Confidence accompanied by competence is confidence built on solid ground. One that people around you will feel, see and respect. It’s not just you thinking highly of yourself, being courageous, and believing in yourself.

Self-confidence without competence is of as little use as is competence without self-confidence” – Bernice Milburn Moore

“Skill and confidence are an unconquered army.” — George Herbert

Another reason why you should invest in yourself is:

#3 Better health

One aspect of investing in yourself is of course investing in your health and well-being, both mental and physical. When you take good care of yourself, nourish your body, get enough rest, process all your inner struggles in a healthy way, exercise, etc. You will feel better, look better, perform better, and actually be able to show up fully for others.

“Peace, happiness, and love are a daily practice. Give time and energy to that which you want more of in your life. Invest in yourself for a higher quality of life. You’re worth it.” – Akiroq Brost

#4 Get to know yourself

Investing time, money, and energy in yourself is definitely a form of self-care. It will not only help you appreciate yourself more but also get to know yourself better. Trying out new things, taking courses and masterclass, reading books, taking up new hobbies, developing new skills, working with a therapist or a mentor, all those things will help you discover new parts of yourself.

#5 Widen your horizon

You will increase your range of experiences, understanding, and knowledge. This will challenge your thinking and expand your perspective.

Every morning is a new opportunity to enrich our lives and to understand and expand the best in our life.” – Amit Ray

Turn on the light within, expand your horizons and reach your full potential.” – Amit Ray

#6 Open new doors

When investing in yourself you are leaving your comfort zone, you’re entering unknown territory. With that come new experiences, new skills, new people. So naturally, new doors will open for you, new opportunities will emerge. If we always do things the same way, always stay in our comfort zone, we cannot expect new, exciting things to happen to us.

“Old ways won’t open new doors.”

#7 Better equipped to help others

By widening your horizon, becoming more understanding, and mainly by filling up your cup first, you will be better equipped to help others.

You will have the health, the energy, the right perspective, the financial resources, to be able to help others, to be more caring and more present.

#8 Prepared for when life doesn’t go your way

Yes, new doors will open, your health, your wealth, your confidence will grow, that doesn’t mean that life will become super easy and everything will go smoothly all the time.

There will still be ups and downs, things outside of your control.

However, by building a strong foundation you’ll mentally, physically, and financially be better prepared to handle it all.

With the acquired skills, friends, confidence, open mind, faith, and good physical and mental health you will be able to pick yourself back up.

You’re worth investing in!
