The Next Time You See Her

It’s funny how sometimes we know the least about the people we know the longest. How well do you really know your sister? Here are 50 questions to ask your sister that will strengthen your bond.

“We have our own, unspoken language—a look that makes one of us fall on the floor laughing or the slight inflection in our voice that conveys everything. It is the ability to prod laughter and love no matter how much your heart might hurt. Someone who sees you exactly as you are and thinks that is enough. Someone who will walk next to you always.”—Barbara Bush

We might know our best friend’s favorite color and our favorite internet person’s biggest fears, yet our own sister is still a mystery to us. If you want to keep it that way, that’s fine. However, if you feel like you had enough of the small talk, and it’s time to get to know each other a bit better then these questions to ask your sister are for you.

Obviously, you don’t want to create an awkward atmosphere and out of nowhere start asking a bunch of personal questions. I’m sure you know your sister well enough to find the right moment where she will feel open to answering some of your deep, fun, as well as personal questions. If you usually only engage with small talk, she might be surprised at first and wonder where your sudden interest is coming from. However, she will definitely feel flattered and appreciate your curiosity about her life, thoughts, plans, and so on. Make sure the be a good listener, don’t interrupt her, be understanding, and be supportive.

You can use the questions below as an inspiration and modify them to your liking. You can also just save your favorite ones in the notes on your phone or take a screenshot of the entire list. In that way, you’ll be able to access them quickly, the next time you get to spend some quality time with your sister.

“We’ll always fight, but we’ll always make up as well. That’s what sisters do: we argue, we point out each other’s frailties, mistakes, and bad judgment, we flash the insecurities we’ve had since childhood, and then we come back together. Until the next time.”Lisa See
