Picnic Date Night Ideas For Busy Parents

Kids definitely take up a lot of our time and energy. We love them so much that we sacrifice a lot for them, which is great! However, it’s so important to make time for our significant other. That’s easier said than done, but a great way to sneak in some one-on-one time is by going on a picnic date night.

Keeping the spark alive with busy schedules, while taking care of kids can seem a little tricky at times.

Yet we should definitely prioritize that. This is how it’s all started. Just you and your partner. And this is how it’s going to be once the kids leave home one day. Therefore, we should always try to make time for our partners. Date each other, no matter how long you’ve been together.

It doesn’t always have to be an extravagant dinner date. Sometimes, it can be watching a movie in sweats and falling asleep in each other’s arms on the couch cause you’re exhausted, instead of heading straight to bed alone. But it doesn’t always have to be an we’re tired, no effort at all date either.

A great way for parents to connect with each other and romanticize the simple things in life is by going on a picnic date night.

When and where to have a picnic date night?

Let me start by saying it doesn’t have to be a nighttime date. It might as well be a breakfast, brunch, or lunch picnic date! A day date. But for the sake of this post, we’ll be talking about a date night.

The fun part about a picnic date night is that you have a free choice and a variety of options as far as the location goes.

This is great as it eliminates various excuses parents make as to why they don’t go on dates anymore.

We’re talking about excuses such as we don’t have the time, the money, or the energy.

A picnic date night can be as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be. As fancy or as simple as you’d like. It can last an hour or the entire night!

Top picnic date night locations:

  • Your backyeard or the roof of your building
No need to worry about finding a babysitter, simply turn on the baby cam, just in case
  • The trunk of your car
A great flexible, fun option is it simply have a picnic in the back of your car! If it’s big enough of course.
You can go wherever you want, find a nice viewpoint. It can be very cosy, plus it’s wind and rain proof. And the most important part, it can make you feel like a teenager again.
  • Quiet spot in nature: by a river or a lake, on the beach, in a park, a field or a garden

What to do on a picnic date night?

  • simply be present with each other
No distractions, put your phones away
  • Connect physically and emotionally
Talk without the kids interrupting you, don’t be on your phones either; hug, kiss, share the food and drinks
  • Enjoy a meal together in peace
Eating can be such a pleasure! And what’s better than sharing it with the person you love the most. Yet in your day-to-day you might be too distracted, too busy, or have just different schedules that don’t always allow you two to simply sit down and share a meal together in peace.
  • Listen to music and slowdance
  • Stargaze
  • Play games
  • Read to each other

Putting a little bit of extra effort into the way you look, will not only make your partner go wild and be appreciative, but it will make you feel better as well. As a mom, you always prioritize everyone else and might not always have the time to take as much care of yourself as you once did and wish you still could.

Whether it’s taking a little bit more time with your makeup, styling your hair, exchanging the mom sneakers for a sexy heel once again (of course if the location of your picnic allows that), or putting on a cute dress, allow yourself to feel as beautiful, as confident, as cute, as sexy as you did before you became a mom and before life got even crazier.

  • White Dress
Think about wearing something that you wouldn’t normally wear everyday when taking care of your kids. A white dress might be such a clothing item for you. It’s not like it’s the most practical with messy toddlers, yet it can make you feel put together, feminine, pure, delicate and (not to underestimate) clean on your date.
