5 simple beauty and health tips that work

Everybody and everyone’s body is different and what might work for one person, might not for another. The great thing about the following beauty & health tips is that it won’t harm you trying them out, it won’t cost you a fortune either, but what it might do, is actually work for you and become your go-to remedy. The following tips definitely fall into my category of “I wish I’ve heard about that sooner!”.

Here are 5 simple beauty & health tips that actually work.

1. Tea tree oil for cold sores.

100% Tea Tree Oil

If you’re struggling with getting cold sores on your lips then this tip might become your lifesaver. Every time I would get a cold sore, I’d research OTC products in hopes of finally finding one that I can always rely on. Some of them helped more, some less, but I was never fully satisfied with any of them. I’ve tried various home remedies as well, but nothing seemed to speed up the process and get the results I wanted. Until I’ve tried tea tree oil! Tea tree oil is very versatile, so it’s great to have it at hand anyway, so you don’t have to get it just for this one purpose.

Applying tea tree oil (100%; if your skin is very sensitive, dilute it with water 1:1; on the bottle, it will usually also say to test for skin sensitivity first, by diluting it with a carrier oil) with a cotton swab to the cold sore a few times a day, can really work wonders. In my personal experience, it worked better and most of all way faster than anything I’ve tried before. Tea tree oil has an antiviral effect and dries out the affected area really fast, stops the tingling sensation immediately, and stops the cold sore from developing.

*Please note that tea tree oil can dry out your skin, so make sure to use it only on the desired area and be sure to moisturize your lips and the skin around them very well. The only downside can be the smell, but if it works as well for you as it did for me, I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to deal with it for those few days. As with most things in life, for best results start applying as soon as possible and be consistent with it until it heals.

2. DIY coffee scrub for cellulite.

Let me start off by saying that it’s totally normal and fine to have cellulite and it’s also said that genetics might play the biggest role when it comes to developing cellulite. But knowing it’s not that big of a deal you might still want to target those areas by taking some extra care of yourself. If you’re eating healthy and exercising but still struggle with cellulite on your lower body, try a DIY coffee scrub, it might be the missing piece. You can find many fancy recipes online, but I find it’s best to stick to the basics and use ingredients that you already have at home.

Basic ingredients for your perfect anti-cellulite body scrub:

fresh coffee grounds

olive or coconut oil

sea salt

optionally: cinnamon

For the proportions, honestly, start mixing and adjust to your liking. Store the scrub in a jar. Once you try it out, you’ll see if you’d rather have more coffee grounds, have them thicker or finer, or have more oil. In the shower massage the scrub in a circular motion onto the desired areas, let it sit for a moment, and then rinse off.

*Please note: don’t clog your drain! I highly suggest using a drain filter or just be creative to prevent the scrub from going down the drain altogether. It really isn’t hard work and the results can be great!

3. Eyebrow razor for peach fuzz or upper lip hair.

Popular eyebrow razor by Tinkle.

In Europe, you can also get great and affordable ones at Rossmann. I’m using them myself at this moment.

Even though they last for quite some time, I’m on the lookout for a more eco-friendly, zero waste alternative.

For the smoothest, softest skin use an eyebrow razor to remove the peach fuzz on your face. You do you, if you don’t care about it at all, that’s totally fine. But if you’re not a fan of female facial hair, especially as a brunette with more visible hair, this can be a great solution and also an alternative to waxing. Depending on your skin type and your hair color as well as its thickness you might only want to use it for the upper lip hair.

It’s simple, it’s fast, and it’s super affordable. Definitely worth giving it a try!

4. Saltwater mouthwash for sore throat and toothache.

Whether you suffer from a sore throat or toothache warm saltwater can bring fast relief. Add a half spoon of sea salt to a cup of warm water and stir until it dissolves. Use it as a mouthwash to ease toothache, or gargle a few times per day to soothe your sore throat.

5. Coconut oil for makeup removal.

Using coconut oil is a natural, affordable, and easy way to remove your makeup, especially heavy eye makeup. It’s also great for sensitive skin! Simply warm up the oil in your hands or use it on a cotton pad and gently rub it onto dry skin, or your eye area only. The coconut oil will basically melt the makeup away. Rinse your face with warm water or wash it with a face wash and pat dry. Ta-da!
